FAQ: InvenTABLE: A kid-safe power tool for cutting cardboard
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

How does the InvenTABLE cut cardboard without a sharp blade?

The best way we can describe it is like a really fast hole punch. Within the metal guard, the tool oscillates up and down and in doing so pinches away at the material bit by bit, depositing it into a dust collection tray.

Will you be getting third party safety certifications? Why don't you have them already?

Before we ship out, we will be getting third party Kids Safety Certifications to make absolutely sure we’ve done everything we can to make this safe. These include the ASTEM F963-11 and Children’s Product Certificate (CPC).

Getting these certifications requires a randomly selected sample of our final manufactured product, which we will be not be developed until after this Kickstarter campaign.

When will you ship internationally?

We are currently not shipping beyond North America during this launch. There are quite a few logistics to figure out regarding toy safety requirements in each country and voltage regulations. We are working on expanding our reach for a future release and hope we can update you soon! Make sure you are signed up for emails at www.itsinventable.com to stay up to date!

This looks similar to a sheet metal cutting power tool that I've seen before - how is it different?

We were inspired by the way that sheet metal cutters work when we created the InvenTABLE! However, we did design this cutting tool ourselves to be more suitable for cardboard and safer for kids. It is a different tool.

Because of these differences, the InvenTABLE should not be used for cutting metal.

How different will the InvenTABLE that is shipped out be from your prototype?

This prototype was created using 3D printing, laser cutting, and hand assembly processes by us (Max and Kausi). Our final manufactured version will have the same design and form-factor, but will use processes such as injection molding, sheet metal cutting, and CNC milling. We will additionally be improving on some small details (for example, adding a clear cap to the top of the tool) based on feedback from our backers.

Will the cutting part of the tool be replaceable?

Yes, it will be replaceable, and we will offer replacement parts! We have been using our current prototype cutting part for over a year with no noticeable change in cut quality. We are making sure that is the case in our final version as well, so that you won’t have to replace it too often!

What's the thickest size of material the InvenTABLE can cut?

Right now, our prototype can handle material up to 3mm thick, but works best with materials 2mm or under. We are working on expanding the allowable thickness in our final version while still keeping it safe for little fingers. Even thicker cardboard may need to be flattened down a little bit wherever your cut lines are!

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
